Week 10: Cognitive Maps & Automatic Drawing

Week 10: Art is a good way to Talk to Your Brain

My experience with drawing the CSULB campus was interesting. Especially during a time where we can’t go outside or even step onto campus. I see that I visually tried to see my route to classes. Since I have back to back classes, I realized that I hit all parts of campus in a full day. I also lived in the dorms during my freshman and sophomore year of college so those visuals came to me while drawing this map. The results were great, I ended up remembering more than I thought. I tried to draw the “main” buildings/sites first then work around them. I think if I would have had a bigger piece of paper it would’ve been better and the drawings would have been more accurate.

For the second drawing, I did draw it with my brother. I picked the colors green and blue because I miss seeing these two dominate colors every day. Since we’re staying inside right now I only see these colors through a window. We both gathered two color pencils, grabbed each other’s hand for a couple of minutes, and let the pencils move. This was fun to do because my brother and I both laughed at our hand movements. He was trying to draw something while I was trying to let the pencil go in whatever movement. Again, I think a bigger piece of paper would’ve been better to complete this drawing. But I am glad we still did it. The results look cool, I enjoyed making a unique drawing.
